There’s a Problem up Ahead but We Don’t Change Anything

Is global warming now irreversible? Climate science maverick James Lovelock believes it is and that catastrophe is inevitable. His reason, (in The Guardian)

‘I see it with everybody. People just want to go on doing what they’re doing. They want business as usual. They say, ‘Oh yes, there’s going to be a problem up ahead,’ but they don’t want to change anything.’

He may have a point. When things get comfortable people don’t want to change. And even if we did, he believes that we’re past the tipping point. The ‘green’ things we’re doing right now won’t make any difference.

Maude Barlow: The Growing Battle for the Right to Water

Maude Barlow’s new book about the water crisis is a call to arms to protect a fundamental human right.

From Chile to the Philippines to South Africa to her home country of Canada, Maude Barlow is one of a few people who truly understands the scope of the world’s water woes. Her newest book, Blue Covenant: The Global Water Crisis and the Coming Battle for the Right to Water, details her discoveries around the globe about our diminishing water resources, the increasing privatization trend and the grassroots groups that are fighting back against corporate theft, government mismanagement and a changing climate.

        Authentic

        Where are you going?

‘Do you treat life as a journey, with a destination or as a stroll, with no particular objective?
If you do see life as a journey - what is your destination, where are you going? ‘

Neill Crofts is founding father and the brain behind a  great new concept: Authentic Leadership & Authentic Transformation. While Authentic Leadership seems mainly about asking the right questions to yourself, the website offers a thorough resource for people who seek some inspiration or a clear orientation in their busy life. Among his books are ‘Seven Stages of Authenticity‘ and a new free e-book ‘Authentic Leadership‘.

Steve Jobs at Apple is an interesting and controversial example of Authentic Leadership - he is by no means easy going, but he is both utterly true to his purpose and values and certainly has followers.  Wired has an interesting article about the Apple and Jobs form of authenticity.

Robert Fisk: The only lesson we ever learn is that we never learn

Five years on, and still we have not learnt. With each anniversary, the steps crumble beneath our feet, the stones ever more cracked, the sand ever finer. Five years of catastrophe in Iraq and I think of Churchill, who in the end called Palestine a “hell-disaster”.
