    Former Finnish President Wins Nobel Peace Prize

    LONDON — Former President Martti Ahtisaari of Finland, who has worked to end conflicts in troubled spots around the world for more than three decades, won the 2008 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday

    In its announcement, the Norwegian Nobel Committee called Mr. Ahtisaari “an outstanding international mediator” whose efforts “have contributed to a more peaceful world and to ‘fraternity between nations’ in Alfred Nobel’s spirit.”

      A young people’s summary of the  United Nations Human Development Report 2007/2008

      The young people of the world have produced a Youth Booklet that includes drawings, poems and human stories on climate change and development, entirely made by and for young people!

      The booklet has been developed by Peace Child International jointly with HDRO, and launched on Youth Day 2008.

        Too Little, Too Late? McCain v. Obama on Global Warming

        I fear I may have poisoned my objectivity on this one after a recent post I did on Sarah Palin and her views on the cause of global warming; there’s no getting around that Gov. Palin’s viewpoint is at odds with what I consider to be good policy and sound science. Palin’s views aside though, the good thing about both Barack Obama and John McCain is the both have indicated that they will take action to combat global warming: Which is reassuring considering a number of sobering statements made towards the end of the summer about the state of arctic climate change.
